Write down the result you want
You do not need to design the complete project before the first visit. Explain what is not working, which parts must change and which parts you would prefer to retain.
- Rooms and priorities
- Known damage or previous repairs
- Desired timing
- Budget range
- Inspiration and finish preferences
- Building or access restrictions
Make relevant areas accessible
Clear reasonable access to the room, mechanical equipment, electrical panel and any area where a condition needs to be inspected. Mention pets, parking, elevators or restricted working hours in advance.
Use the visit to define the next step
The first visit should clarify what needs more investigation, which decisions affect pricing and what information will be included in the written scope. It does not need to force every selection on the spot.
